The Final Cut
I made it through the month with a release of perfection and a sense of gratitude. I allowed myself to choose rest when it felt best and didn’t knock myself for missing a day. I just picked back up when I was ready. I am so, so, so glad I did this. It’s hard to believe National Poetry Writing Month (April) has concluded. There’s much to celebrate.
Not only did my poems expand but so have I. And it’s in this space that allows me to bring my fullest self forward. I also attended my first ever Slam Poetry Contest, as part of the Vancouver Poetry House Verses Festival. It 100% affirmed something I’ve long thought about: spoken word is for me. And that’s why you’ll see I recorded the final two poems of this month. Not quite the same as a live audience, but I’m so proud of myself for giving myself permission to be a beginner. I mean, a hundred-videos-later-beginner. 🙂 <3 I also tried my hand at a limerick and wrote a 10-poem series on Money.
It was a good month.
